  1. Most common method is they break the plastic steering column and use a screwdriver. Takes about a minute. When steering columns were steel, the perps had to jam the screwdriver into the ignition switch and used it as the key. Som carried a slim punch and simply popped the ignition switch out. Hot wiring, was in vogue when there were no steering column mounted ignition locks. I prefer Briggs dash mounted ignition switches with starter button. Use a remote cutoff switch, one for ignition grounding and another to disable the fuel pump. If they want the car, there is little to prevent it, unless a steel column with a Medco hood, and Club, but steering wheels get cut and barrel key locks defeated with hair bobby pins.
